SUNSHINE COAST GEOGRAPHY

A coastal region found in the heart of Queensland, Australia comes the Sunshine Coast, which has, in recent times, been united into a single local government area, that of which is known as the Sunshine Coast Regional Council. This region that lays within the southeastern area of Queensland is surrounded by a few aesthetically pleasing environments such as the Pacific Ocean over to the east.

Inland Sunshine Coast

Over to the west is another local government boundary that of which is known as the Blackall Range. The towns of Caboolture – which is a 30 minute drive south of Caloundra – and Gympie – which is also a 30 minute drive but is north of Noosa Heads – are typically included when describing an overall, broad definition of what the Sunshine Coast region actually is.

Sunshine Coast Beaches

Both air travel as well as the large variety of Australian attractions to offer have brought in a number of international tourists each and every year – and one of their greatest interests is always claimed to be the Sunshine Coast.

The Sunshine Coast is characterized by, as the name perhaps implies, lovely beaches that offer a very expansive coastal view as well as fertile, rich soils within the hinterland. The Australian and World-renowned beaches that are so infamous lie in Noosa Heads, Mooloolaba, Coolum, Alexandra Headland and Kings Beach. Not to mention, these locations offer a good opportunity to surf.

We would like to extend a big thankyou to Noosa Accommodation who provided us with our outstanding Noosa Hotels during our school research excursion.

Sunshine Coast Environment

Not only does the Sunshine Coast of Queensland hold many beaches, but it also is home to a number of national parks. The natural biodiversity of this region is currently under protection by the five different national parks located in both coastal as well as inland regions. These parks include the Great Sandy National Park, Noosa National Park, the Glasshouse Mountains National Park, Kondalilla National Park, as well as the Mapleton Falls National park. The Great Sandy National Park includes sections of regions such as Fraser Island and Cooloola near Rainbow Beach.

Another thing that the environment of the Sunshine Coast of Queensland has to offer are the numerous golf links, such as Pacific Harbour, North Lakes, Noosa Springs, the Headland Golf Club, Peregian Springs, Twin Waters, as well as the Hyatt Regency Column.

Sunshine Coast Climate

As the name of the region also implies, the Sunshine Coast of Queensland offers perhaps one of the highest sunshine readings in the world, with seven hours of each day filled with sunshine. While seasonal changes may be more drastic in places such as Europe, North America or Northern Asia, the variation between winter and summer are far less significant. The temperature of the ocean can range between 19 degrees and 26 degrees C (66 degrees to 79 degrees F).

Average temperatures from the summer, which lies between December and February, generally range from about 17 degrees to about 28 degrees C (63 degrees to 82 degrees F). Warmer days do occur within the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, though more often than not, this coastal area has a tendency to enjoy sea breezes with cooler temperatures. Spring and autumn – September to November and March to May, respectively – generally range from 13 degrees to 25 degrees C (55 degrees to 77 degrees F). Winter, June to August, generally ranges from 7 degrees to 22 degrees C (45 degrees to 72 degrees F). Blackall Range temperatures tend to be several degrees cooler, however.
