PERTH GEOGRAPHY

The climate of Perth is quite mild during the winter, and dry and hot during the summer. Perth is known for being very sunny for most of the year. It is estimated that Perth residents experience 3,000 hours of sunshine every year. During the summer months, the temperature can top 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or 40 degrees Celsius. Humidity is very low during this time of the year. During the winter from June through August, it is commonplace for the city and the surrounding area to experience a lot of rain, but rarely does the Perth resident experience snow or frost.

Perth is known for its extensive Indian Ocean coastlines and beautiful sandy beaches. The coast features numerous sand dunes in addition to flat beaches. Mandurah, a coastal city located about forty-five miles south of Perth, has numerous canals and waterways where dolphins frolic. This is a popular spot for scuba diving.

Perth is a popular tourist destination among those who are exploring Australia. The city is a mixture of vibrant urban life and beautiful landscapes, with its oceanfront and forests just outside the city and its cultural attractions, including its museums, art galleries, sports teams, and festivals. Travelers to Perth come to enjoy the snorkeling, surfing and sailing available, and to experience the area’s natural wonders.

Near to the Perth vicinity are the Perth Hills and the Darling ranges or the Darling Scarp. These are upland granite and quartzite areas, sometimes referred to as mountains, that were formed millions of years ago from what is known as the Darling Fault.

There are several national parks close to the city, each offering different scenic landscapes and amenities, including waterfalls, hiking, swimming, boating, picnicking, caves and gardens. John Forrest National Park is known for being a scenic picnic area. There is also a scenic drive through the park. Torindurrip National Park is located on the coastline and features many different plant species, along with a “bridge” made from granite rock and small sand hills. Visitors can take advantage of the trails all over the park, and see native Australian animals like the kangaroo. Yanchep National Park offers bush trails and woodlands. It is common to see wild birds and other animals in the park, including kangaroos, swans, cockatoos, and cormorants. Beelu National Park is located along the Darling Scarp and offers mountain scenery and bike trails. Serpentine Park, also found on this scarp, is known for its waterfalls. Nambung National Park is found north of the city and is known for being the home of the Pinnacles Desert. These “pinnacles” are limestone structures that jut from the ground.
